ACC women’s basketball tournament bracket is set. Here are the matchups

Duke’s loss to North Carolina Sunday not only cost the Blue Devils the ACC tournament’s top seed it put them in line to possibly face their rival a third time on Friday.

The bracket for the ACC women’s basketball tournament, which begins Wednesday at the Greensboro Coliseum, shows Duke as the No. 2 seed with the Tar Heels at No. 7.

That means if UNC (20-9) wins its game Wednesday against either the No. 10 seed Clemson (16-14) or No. 15 seed Pittsburgh (10-19), the Tar Heels would advance to meet the No. 2 seed Blue Devils (24-5) in Friday’s quarterfinals.

On Sunday, the Tar Heels completed a regular-season sweep of Duke with a 45-41 win at Cameron Indoor Stadium.

That result cleared the way for Notre Dame to win the regular season and claim the ACC tournament’s top seed. The Irish (24-4) will play in Friday’s second quarterfinal at 2 p.m.

Virginia Tech (23-4) is tournament’s No. 3 seed.

Louisville (21-10), despite losing to Notre Dame on Sunday, became the tournament’s No. 4 seed when Clemson upset Florida State, 74-61, on Sunday. That knocked the Seminoles (23-8) to the No. 5 seed.

Miami (18-11) and UNC both finished with 11-7 ACC records. But the Hurricanes won the No. 6 seed by virtue of their 62-58 win over the Tar Heels on Jan. 5 in their lone regular-season game.

N.C. State (19-10), winner of the past three ACC tournament championships, is the No. 8 seed. The Wolfpack and No. 9 seed Syracuse both finished with 9-9 league records but N.C. State gets the better seed due to its 56-54 win over the Orange on Jan. 1.

The Wolfpack and Orange meet on Thursday at the ACC tournament.

The tournament begins with three games on Wednesday featuring the final six teams in the regular-season standings. Seeds five through nine begin play on Thursday while the top four seeds begin play in Friday’s quarterfinals.
