ACC baseball tournament returning to record-setting venue in Charlotte’s Uptown
The ACC Baseball Championship is returning to the stadium that hosted an all-time record crowd for the event 18 months ago.
The ACC has announced that the 2024 baseball tournament will be played May 21-26 at Truist Field in Charlotte’s Uptown.
“We are incredibly excited that the 2024 ACC Baseball Championship will return to Charlotte, the new home of the ACC,” league commissioner Jim Phillips said. “Our student-athletes, staff, alumni and fans enjoyed a tremendous experience during the 2021 and 2022 ACC Baseball Championships, and we know that will only continue as we look forward to this year’s event.”
The 2022 title game, in which North Carolina beat N.C. State, drew a sellout crowd of 10,500, largest ever for a championship game.
In all, the 2022 tournament drew 59,000 fans — fifth-largest total for the ACC Baseball Championship.
COVID-related attendance restrictions were in place at the 2021 tournament, also played in Charlotte. Duke won the ACC title in 2021.
The conference’s baseball championship also was played in the Charlotte area in 2000 and 2001, when it took place at the old Knights Castle in Fort Mill.
Truist Field is home of the Triple-A Charlotte Knights.
Eight ACC teams were picked for the NCAA baseball tournament last spring, and the league has placed at least one team in the last 17 men’s College World Series.
