N.C. State’s secondary is thinner Monday after the Wolfpack confirmed it has removed Ja’Had Carter from the football team’s roster.

A spokesperson confirmed Carter is no longer with the program, but would not say the reason for the player’s removal other than it was not for legal reasons.

Carter played in five games at nickel, more than the four-game maximum to redshirt, and started three. He recorded 15 tackles and one pass breakup in his brief Wolfpack career.

He played two snaps against Syracuse, his former school.

Carter started his career with the Orange, playing three seasons from 2020-22. He played one season at Ohio State. In his five-year career, Carter recorded 157 tackles, eight pass breakups, five interceptions, forced one fumble and recovered one fumble for a touchdown.

N.C. State’s defense is already thin after losing nickelback Tamarcus Cooley in the last game to a targeting penalty. Cooley will miss the first half of the Pack’s game at Cal on Saturday.

Middle linebacker Caden Fordham will miss the remainder of the season after he was injured during practice last week.

Cornerback Brandon Cisse’s status remains uncertain. He missed the past two games due to an undisclosed injury. He wore a cast on his left forearm against Wake Forest and had a brace on the same arm Saturday.

It is still without safety Devan Boykin, who injured his ACL in preparation for the 2023 bowl game.
