Auburn football player was hospitalized after being shot in Charlotte, police say
An Auburn football player was hospitalized late Thursday after being shot in the chest in Uptown Charlotte.
DeAngelo Carter, a defensive tackle for the Auburn Tigers who is listed on the school’s website as Trill Carter, was “shot in the chest by an unknown subject” at approximately 11:45 p.m. Thursday on East Sixth Street, according to a Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department incident report obtained by The Charlotte Observer.
The report also states that he was transported to Presbyterian Medical Center and that there were no other victims. The case is still active.
Carter, 24, told The Athletic that the injury didn’t require surgery and he has since been released from the hospital. The Cordele, Georgia, native added that he was in town visiting a friend, but didn’t elaborate on how the altercation transpired, according to the media report.
An Auburn spokesperson confirmed to The Observer that they were aware of the incident.
Carter transferred from Texas to Auburn last season and notched four tackles in nine games with the Tigers. He also played for Minnesota prior to moving to the SEC. Carter ultimately played six seasons of college football and stated previously that this would be his final season playing the game.
