Another Gamecocks MBB starter out for multiple weeks
The South Carolina men’s basketball team has lost a starter for the second time this week.
Guard Jamarii Thomas is expected to miss three to four weeks with a knee sprain, the school announced Friday evening. Thomas was listed as out for Saturday’s matchup with No. 2 Auburn on the Southeastern Conference injury report released earlier in the evening.
The school said Thomas suffered the injury during practice. The Norfolk State guard has started all 15 games and is averaging 12.3 points, second most on the team.
Thomas joins Myles Stute, who is out indefinitely with a left lower leg deep vein thrombosis (blood clot).
Jacobi Wright will likely move over to the point guard spot in place of Thomas, and Morris Ugusuk could be moved into the starting lineup.
Thomas was a key addition in the offseason for the Gamecocks after a successful career at Norfolk State. The 6-foot, 185-pound Greensboro, NC native averaged 17 points, 4 rebounds and 4 assists a game last season and was the MEAC Player of the Year.
Thomas originally committed to VCU when he entered the transfer portal but he flipped to the Gamecocks less than a week later.
