What’s next for Shawn Elliott, Mike Furrey after USC hires new assistants
This season, for the first time as the head coach of South Carolina football, Shane Beamer fired two assistant coaches. Offensive coordinator Mike Shula and offensive line coach Lonnie Teasley were let go midway through the year.
On Thursday, new Gamecocks OC Kendal Briles and O-line coach Randy Clements were named their replacements.
That led to another decision for Beamer: What happens to interim play-caller Mike Furrey and interim O-line coach Shawn Elliott?
While there’s no official statement from Beamer, Elliott or Furrey yet, USC’s press release announcing the new Gamecocks hires included a full list of the 2026 coaching staff. Furrey and Elliott are included on the list as the receivers coach and tight ends coach, respectively, which were the pair’s prior roles with the team before stepping in for Shula and Teasley.
The list suggests Furrey and Elliott, who have been with the Gamecocks since the 2024 season, are expected to stick around for another year.
Furrey’s contract expires at the end of the 2026 season, and Elliott’s expires in 2027.
