College baseball will have a beefed-up presence in uptown Charlotte next spring, after the Charlotte Knights and Charlotte 49ers announced three additional games featuring the 49ers at BB&T Ballpark.
Charlotte will face Georgia, N.C. State and Winthrop in Tuesday evening games at the Knights’ stadium. That is in addition to the April 12 game between North Carolina and South Carolina, which was announced last week.
“We are pleased to establish a tradition of bringing collegiate baseball to uptown Charlotte,” Knights chief operating officer Dan Rajkowski said. “The 49ers have become a great partner to the Knights, and after the success of last year’s game, we can’t wait to welcome them back for three games in 2016.
“We look forward to bringing in Winthrop University, N.C. State and the University of Georgia as well.”

A game March 31 between the 49ers and N.C. State drew 8,147 fans to BB&T Ballpark. Nearly 3,000 fans were there April 5 when Davidson played the Knights in an exhibition.
The 49ers will be the home team March 8 against Georgia and March 29 against the Wolfpack. Winthrop is the home team April 5, as the Eagles moved their game to Charlotte. Those three games will start at 6:05 p.m.
“We are very excited about the upcoming 2016 season and the chance to play at BB&T Ballpark,” 49ers coach Loren Hibbs said. “Last year was an overwhelming success, and our goal is to duplicate that in 2016. We value the ongoing relationship we have with the Knights.”
Charlotte also announced the remainder of its 2016 schedule. The 49ers will play 36 of their 56 regular-season games at home, including contests against teams from the ACC, SEC and eight other conferences. Half of the 49ers’ 30 Conference USA games will be at Hayes Stadium, their campus facility.
The 49ers open their 2016 season Feb. 19-21 with a three-game home weekend series against William & Mary.
