Queens University of Charlotte names new athletic director

Queens University of Charlotte has named associate athletic director Cherie Swarthout as its athletic director.

Swarthout joined the Queens athletics department in 2006. She will be the third athletic director to lead the department.

“Cherie has been a key part of the success of Queens athletics for the past 10 years. Her leadership as interim director of athletics over the past six months made her an obvious choice to lead the program on a permanent basis,” James Bullock, vice president for university advancement, said in a statement.

Prior to joining Queens, Swarthout was an assistant basketball coach at Illinois State University for 10 years.

Swarthout holds a bachelor’s degree in physical education and health from Michigan State University. She obtained her master’s degree in athletic administration and sports psychology from Illinois State University in 1996. She is also pursuing a master’s degree in organizational development at Queens, and she holds a coaching certificate earned at Queens in 2015.
