The Charlotte 49ers’ Benny LeMay had a big day Saturday in the East-West Shrine Bowl college all-star game in St. Petersburg, Florida.

LeMay, the 49ers’ All-Conference USA running back, was named the team’s offensive Most Valuable Player after rushing for 80 yards on 16 carries and scoring two touchdowns in the East’s 31-27 victory.

LeMay scored on runs of 10 and 9 yards. His second touchdown gave the East its winning points with 1 minute, 52 seconds left.

“It was a great team effort,” said LeMay, who finished his career as the second-leading rusher in Charlotte history. “The offensive line did a great job of opening up some holes and giving me some lanes to run through.”

LeMay was joined on the East squad by 49ers offensive tackle Cam Clark and defensive end Alex Highsmith.
