New York Jets draft Charlotte 49ers offensive tackle Cam Clark in 4th round
Charlotte 49ers offensive tackle Cameron Clark was taken by the New York Jets in the fourth round of the NFL draft on Saturday.
Clark, the 129th pick overall, joins former teammate Alex Highsmith, a defensive end who was drafted by the Pittsburgh Steelers in the third round.
Clark (6-3, 316 pounds) holds Charlotte’s program record for career games played (49) and was part of an offensive line that helped produce Conference USA’s top-ranked offense (203.0 yards per game) last season.
“I’m extremely excited. It doesn’t feel real. It’s a dream come true,” Clark said before the draft. “I’m not so anxious now as I will be in a few days. I just feel very fortunate. I feel really blessed. Growing up I never thought this would happen. Even at Charlotte, I just wanted to be the best I could be.”
Undrafted LeMay to Browns
49ers running back Benny LeMay wasn’t taken in the draft but was signed as an undrafted free agent by the Cleveland Browns on Saturday.
LeMay, who played at Butler High, is Charlotte’s second-leading career rusher (3,232 yards). He had two consecutive 1,000-yard plus seasons, the only player in 49ers history to do that. He was the most valuable offensive player in February’s East-West Shrine Bowl with 80 yards and two touchdowns on 20 carries.
