Not a rivalry? Appalachian State gives Charlotte 49ers the finger

Appalachian State beat Charlotte’s 49ers 35-20 Saturday, but what happened after the game may have turned this matchup into a bona fide rivalry.

This all began last year, when Charlotte went to Boone and lost in wild and memorable 56-41 game. Afterwards, Charlotte left its “Club Lit” sign in the locker room, and App State didn’t give it back.

After wins, Charlotte turns its locker room into a make shift club. The sign is the centerpiece.

And after Saturday’s game — which was played in front of just a handful of fans — the Mountaineers celebrated in their locker room.

Senior tight end Mike Evans posted a photo of some of his teammates around the “Club Lit” sign with some of them tossing up their middle finger, in apparent defiance of Charlotte. He later replaced the photo.

The original caught the attention of 49ers receiver Cameron Dollar, who responded on Twitter.

Let’s hope the teams play next year.
