The Charlotte 49ers will not be launching their men’s or women’s Conference USA basketball schedules until at least Jan. 8.

The 49ers announced Wednesday that their teams’ scheduled weekend games had been postponed due to COVID-related issues among the competing teams.

The Charlotte men’s team was to have traveled to South Florida, facing Florida Atlantic on Thursday and Florida International on Saturday.

The women’s team was to have hosted each of those schools, also on Thursday and Saturday.

49ers’ officials said they are working to reschedule the games.

Now the two teams will have a lengthy break, with each scheduled to resume play Jan. 8 against Old Dominion — the men at home, the women on the road.

The news came a day after Davidson announced that its men’s and women’s Atlantic 10 openers had been postponed due to COVID issues. The men were to have opened conference play Thursday at home against Duquesne, and the women at home Saturday against Fordham.
