Charlotte to face Appalachian State in 2025 Duke’s Mayo Classic at Bank of America Stadium

Bank of America Stadium will host a pair of North Carolina teams in the 2025 Duke’s Mayo Classic.

The Charlotte Sports Foundation (CSF) announced Thursday that the Charlotte 49ers and Appalachian State Mountaineers will battle in the annual game on August 28, 2025. The matchup will follow the 2024 game, featuring the N.C. State Wolfpack and Tennessee Volunteers, which is set for September 7, 2024.

The Bank of America Stadium battle between the 49ers and the Mountaineers will be their fourth head-to-head football contest. The Mountaineers own a 3-0 lead over the 49ers in their all-time series.

The Mountaineers previously played in the 2021 Duke’s Mayo Classic, defeating East Carolina, 33-19. This will be the 49ers’ first appearance in the annual game.

“We are thrilled to add this passionate regional rivalry to our upcoming slate of Duke’s Mayo Classic games,” said CSF executive director Danny Morrison in a release issued by the foundation. “We believe the atmosphere in the Queen City will be electric and both the Mountaineers and 49ers will be well represented.”

The CSF extended their stadium agreement with Tepper Sports & Entertainment on Tuesday. That agreement will keep CSF events, including the 2025 Duke’s Mayo Classic, at Bank of America Stadium, as it has for the past 22 years.

Kickoff time and ticket information for the 2025 Duke’s Mayo Classic will be announced at a later date.
