South Carolina offensive line coach and co-offensive coordinator Shawn Elliott will be named interim head coach of the Gamecocks on Tuesday.

It will be his first time as head coach after 19 years as an assistant.

Elliott, who is from Camden, is in his sixth season with USC. He joined Steve Spurrier’s staff on Jan. 3, 2010 and was given the co-offensive coordinator title in 2012 after serving as the running game coordinator for the previous two seasons.

Prior to his arrival in Columbia, Elliott had coached his entire career at Appalachian State, where he helped the Mountaineers to three-straight national championships (2005-07).

Steve Spurrier will still meet with the media at noon Tuesday at Williams-Brice Stadium, his regularly weekly press conference time, according to a source. That meeting is expected to take place in a larger setting than USC’s normal media room, but the exact location was not known early Tuesday morning.
