As CIAA tournament gets set, first round pairings, schedule lined up

The CIAA men’s and women’s basketball tournament is Tuesday through Saturday at Time Warner Cable Arena. Johnson C. Smith is seeded second in the women’s tournament from the South Division and fourth in the men’s tournament.

The Golden Bulls’ men’s team (14-13, 5-5 CIAA) tied Fayetteville State for the third seed but dropped to fourth after losing a coin flip.

Women’s tournament

Tuesday’s first round: Fayetteville State vs. Elizabeth City State, 10 a.m.; Winston-Salem State vs. Chowan, 12:10 p.m.; Bowie State vs. Livingstone, 2:20 p.m.; Virginia Union vs. Saint Augustine’s, 4:30 p.m.

Wednesday’s quarterfinals: Elizabeth City State or Fayetteville State vs. Virginia State, 10 a.m.; Chowan or Winston-Salem State vs. Shaw, 12:10 p.m.; Saint Augustine’s or Virginia Union vs. Lincoln (Pa.), 2:20 p.m.; Livingstone or Bowie State vs. J.C. Smith, 4:30 p.m.

Friday’s semifinals: 1 p.m., 3 p.m.

Saturday’s final: 4 p.m. (ASPIRE TV)

Men’s tournament

Tuesday’s first round: Elizabeth City State vs. Saint Augustine’s, 6:40 p.m.; Shaw vs. Virginia Union, 8:50 p.m.

Wednesday’s second round: Saint Augustine’s or Elizabeth City vs. Chowan, 6:40 p.m.; Virginia Union or Shaw vs. J.C. Smith, 8:50 p.m.

Thursday’s quarterfinals: Fayetteville State vs. Virginia State, 1 p.m.; Chowan/Saint Augustine’s/Elizabeth City State winner vs. Bowie State, 3; Lincoln (Pa.) vs. Livingstone, 7; J.C. Smith/Virginia Union/Shaw winner vs. Winston-Salem State, 9.

Friday’s semifinals: 7 p.m., 9 p.m.

Saturday’s final: 7 p.m. (ESPNU, tape delay, TBA)
