For the fifth time in team history, the Charlotte men’s basketball team will play in Hawaii.
The 49ers will play Texas Christian on Dec. 23 in Honolulu, the team announced on Wednesday. The first-round game is part of the Diamond Head Classic, held Dec. 22-25.
Charlotte will play three games in Honolulu, and will face either Rhode Island or Bucknell in its second Diamond Head Classic game. The game against TCU will tip at 12:30 a.m., and all three games will be carried on ESPN networks.
Appalachian State will play Purdue on Nov. 15 at 5 p.m., and the Wildcats will play Wichita State in the following game at 7 p.m. If both teams win, they would play each other on Nov. 16.
Both tournaments feature teams with NCAA tournament experience. Three of eight teams in the Diamond Head Classic competed in the 2018 tournament: TCU, Bucknell and Rhode Island.
And five of eight teams in the Charleston Classic played in last year’s tournament: Davidson —which lost, 78-73, to Kentucky in the first round — Wichita State, Alabama, Purdue and Virginia Tech.
