Davidson’s Luke Frampton taking personal leave of absence; Wildcats fall to Marquette
Davidson sophomore guard Luke Frampton is taking a personal leave of absence from the team, a Wildcats spokesman told the Observer.
It’s unclear when Frampton will return. Davidson lost to Marquette, 73-63, in the Orlando Invitational on Thursday.
Frampton is averaging 9.8 points and is among the Atlantic 10’s leaders in 3-point percentage (48.3) and 3-pointer made per game (2.8). As a redshirt freshman, Frampton averaged 10.3 points and led the league in 3-pointers made (100) and 3-pointers made per game (2.9).
Frampton missed his true freshman season with a knee injury.
The Wildcats are also without senior guard KiShawn Pritchett, who is recovering from minor knee surgery and has missed the first five games of the season. Davidson (2-3) played Marquette in the opening round of the Orlando Invitational on Thursday.
Marquette 73, Davidson 63
After Davidson’s Kellan Grady sank a pair of free throws with 4:07 to play, the Wildcats led 56-53. Marquette’s Markus Howard made a 3-pointer and a layup to give the Warriors the lead and it was all Marquette from there.
Howard had a huge game, finishing with 40 points, including five made 3-pointers and 13 free throws. Sacar Anim was the only other Warrior to hit double figures in scoring with 12 points.
Grady led Davidson with 28 points and 10 rebounds.
Davidson drops into the tournament’s consolation bracket where it will play Fairfield on Friday at 6:30 p.m.
