Matt McKillop, a longtime fixture in Davidson’s basketball program, has been promoted to associate head coach, the school announced Tuesday.

“Matt continues to play a significant and vital role on our staff,” Wildcats head coach Bob McKillop said in a statement. “It has been particularly evident as we have made the transition to the Atlantic 10.”

Matt McKillop, 33, who played at Davidson from 2002-06, has been an assistant on his father’s staff since 2008. Previous associate head coaches under Bob McKillop who have gone on to become head coaches include Jim Fox (Appalachian State) and Matt Metheny (Elon).

“He has worn all the hats and has had all the experiences of our previous outstanding associate head coaches,” Bob McKillop said. “Matt is well on his way to preparing himself to be a very successful head coach.”
