US Open champion Matt Fitzpatrick joins field for Wells Fargo Championship in Charlotte
England’s Matt Fitzpatrick, who won last weekend’s RBC Heritage Classic in Hilton Head Island, S.C., is among the latest highly-ranked PGA members who have announced they’ll play in the Wells Fargo Championship in Charlotte.
Fitzpatrick, who beat Jordan Spieth in a playoff at Hilton Head, finished second in last year’s Wells Fargo Championship, which was played in Potomac, Maryland.
This will be the reigning U.S. Open champion’s first appearance in Charlotte. He is ranked No. 8 in the world.
Also announcing Wednesday that he’ll play in Charlotte was 11th-ranked Viktor Hovland of Norway. Hovland tied for seventh at the Masters earlier this month and has finished in the top 10 five times this season.
Two past champions of the Wells Fargo event, Clemson alum Rickie Fowler and Jason Day, announced Tuesday that they’ll play in Charlotte.
The Wells Fargo Championship is set for May 1-7 at the Quail Hollow Club, with competitive rounds to be played May 4-7.
Players have until 5 p.m. April 29 to commit to the Charlotte event.
