Mallard Creek tops first N.C. Associated Press high school football poll

Mallard Creek is the No. 1 ranked 4A team in the first Associated Press statewide high school football poll.

The weekly poll is voted by a statewide panel of media, including the Observer. Mallard Creek, ranked as high as No. 10 nationally, received 13 of 14 first place votes in the 4A poll. Other ranked 4A teams from the Observer’s coverage area include No. 6 Butler, No. 9 Vance and No. 10 Charlotte Catholic.

In the 3A poll, Havelock is first. Observer-area teams include Sun Valley (7th) and South Point (9th).

Lincolnton is No. 2 in 2A, one spot below state champ Shelby. East Lincoln is No. 7 and Monroe is No. 8.
