Hickory Ridge, Hopewell jump in Observer’s Sweet 16 girls basketball poll

The Sweet 16 girls basketball poll this season, if it were a plane ride, would be full of turbulence.

The 2016-17 season has been highlighted with upsets and the effects show in the poll. Mallard Creek and Providence Day hold steady at the top, but three new teams jump in this week and there was serious shuffling among last week’s group.

Hickory Ridge, for example, jumped from No. 6 to No. 3, and unbeaten Hopewell rose from No. 8 to No. 4.

New to the poll are 4A Berry, 4A Hough and 3A power Sun Valley.
