↑Weddington tennis: beat Marvin Ridge 6-3 and won against the Mavericks for the first time in at least four years. Marvin Ridge can win a share of the Southern Carolina conference championship by beating Sun Valley Tuesday.
↔Hopewell-North Meck baseball: Friday’s game was suspended in the fifth inning with Hopewell leading 4-0. Some of the lights at North Meck’s field were out. The game will resume Saturday at 1 p.m.
↑Travel basketball kicks off: This was the first official weekend for many of the travel basketball leagues, including the adidas Gauntlet, Nike EYBL and Under Armour Association. adidas teams were in Dallas, Nike in Hampton, Va., and Under Armour in New York. Observer-area players were action at all three sites and at games throughout the Carolinas.

He struck out five and walked one. McAulay, a designated hitter committed toWestern Carolina, had a homer, a double, and two RBI's.
John Hosmer, Will Jeffries, Charlotte Country Day baseball: 2-for-3 with two RBIs for Hosmer; 2-for-2 for Jeffries with a double and three RBIs in an 11-0 win over Cannon.
