Hough High has hired Matt Jenkins as its new head football coach.

Jenkins coached at Hopewell High, one of Hough’s biggest rivals, in 2013 and 2014. Hopewell was 8-15 under Jenkins, but made the N.C. 4AA playoffs in 2013 after five-game win streak to finish the season.

Jenkins was defensive coordinator at Concord High last season. At Hough, Jenkins replaces Miles Aldridge, who was relieved of his coaching duties last month. Aldridge remains at the school as a PE teacher. Jenkins will also teach PE.

Hough athletics director Masanori Toguchi said the school was in the process of hiring Jenkins to be its offensive coordinator and ultimately decided he would be the best person to become the school’s third head football coach, following Aldridge and Bobby Collins.
