Marvin Ridge’s Bailey Frederick had a standout junior season in indoor track, finishing fourth in the state in the pole vault, jumping a then personal-best 14 feet, 6 inches.

Six days later, the junior raised his career-best vault to 14-9.5 at the Appalachian State Open, finishing third in the event.

But when it mattered most at the New Balance Nationals Indoor on March 13 in New York City, Frederick jumped to a personal record of 15-4.25 to win the national title in the Emerging Elite Division.

Frederick set a meet record for the Emerging Elite pole vault in beating the field by 6 inches.

His national title vault was the fourth best in the state this season and 44th in the nation, according to usa.milesplit.com.
