7 high school football games to watch Friday night
Marvin Ridge (2-0) at Ardrey Kell (0-2), 7 p.m.: Marvin Ridge was impressive in last week’s 35-14 romp over A.L. Brown. Running backs Bryce McClain and Caleb Deveaux each averages about 8 yards per carry. Ardrey Kell was impressive in a 23-20 overtime loss to Myers Park and features a strong passing attack.
Providence (2-0) at Myers Park (2-0), 7 p.m.: Julian Boddie rushed for 233 yards last week in Providence’s win against Hough. But the Mustangs have two-time Southwestern 4A rushing leader Khamal Howard in their lineup.
Northwestern (1-1) at South Mecklenburg (0-2), 7 p.m.: Sophomore quarterback Dustin Noller (255 yards passing a game) leads the visiting Trojans against a Sabres team reeling from losses to 3A powers Marvin Ridge and Catholic.
South Point (2-0) at Forestview (1-1), 7:30 p.m.: The host Jaguars have been a defensive rock in recent seasons but face a tough test against South Point running back Jake Alexander.
Hunter Huss (2-0) at Clover (2-0), 7:30 p.m. : Clover has crushed two Gaston County foes but now must slow down the Huskies, who have outscored opponents 82-0.
Community School of Davidson (1-0) at Lake Norman Charter (1-1), 7:30 p.m.: This neighborhood rivalry pits CSD’s passing attack, led by quarterback Luke Watts, against a rugged Knights’ defense.
