↑Area girls tennis champions: Three area stars -- from Maiden, Charlotte Catholic and a repeater from South Mecklenburg -- won NCHSAA tennis championships Saturday. Complete results below
↑Covenant Day girls cross-country: Lions won the NCISAA state championship Friday in Cary. Cary Academy was second. Providence Day and Charlotte Latin were third and fourth. Forsyth Country Day’s Lindsey Ickes won the individual race in 18 minutes, 39 seconds, nearly half a minute clear of second place.
↑Providence Day boys cross-country: Chargers won the NCISAA title Friday. Charlotte Country Day was fifth, Charlotte Latin seventh followed by Gaston Christian, Metrolina Christian and Covenant Day. Cary Academy’s Coleman Mitchell was individual champ in 15:23.09.
↑Tony Pineda, Statesville soccer and Malik Simmons, Forest Hills: both players have 58 goals this season, to tie for the N.C. scoring lead and tie for the fifth-best nationally. Pineda set a new Iredell County single-season and career record this season. He has 116 career goals.
↑North Iredell, Community School of Davidson volleyball: beat reigning N.C. 3A state champ Cox Mill for the second time this season, winning decisively 3-0 in a state quarterfinal match Saturday. North Iredell will face Marvin Ridge in the semifinals next week. Community School reached the 1A semifinals. Full pairings below.

Zoe Huffman, Maiden girls tennis: dominant run en route to winning the N.C. 2A state championship Saturday. She won her quarterfinal 6-0, 6-0. She won her semifinal 6-1, 6-1 and she won the state finals match 6-0, 6-1.
Rose Kenny, Charlotte Catholic girls tennis: beat New Balance 2017 national champion Kate Earnhardt of Concord 6-4, 6-2 in the N.C. 3A semifinals, and beat Weddington’s Sarah Merrill 7-6 (4), 6-1 to capture the state championship.
Jenna Thompson, South Mecklenburg girls tennis: repeated as N.C. 4A state champion, beating Cary Green Hope’s Katie Andreini 6-2, 6-4 in the state championship match. The 2016 Charlotte Observer player of the year, Thompson is a sophomore with two seasons left in her career.

Charlotte Latin 3-peats as field hockey champions
Charlotte Latin finished the season undefeated, winning the N.C. Independent Schools’ Athletic Association state championship at home over rival Providence Day.
The Hawks (21-0) beat Providence 3-0 Saturday morning, getting goals from Cecelia Monnin, Caroline Balogh and Caroline Juckett. Hawks’ goalie Grace Crutchfield got the shutout.
