Hough volleyball advances to NCHSAA state championship game Saturday
Hough High’s volleyball team went to Pfafftown on Halloween and came up with a winning formula.
The Huskies fell behind Reagan High early but rallied for a 3-2 win that sent the Huskies to Saturday’s state championship game. Reagan (28-2) went unbeaten through the Central Piedmont 4A to capture the league championship and had won eight straight matches. It had rolled through the playoffs, beating Myers Park 3-0, Davie County 3-2 and Hickory Ridge 3-1 en route to Tuesday’s Western Regional championship game.
Hough (25-5) won its 15th straight match and will face Cary Green Hope (26-1) in Saturday’s 7:30 p.m. state final at N.C. State.
The Huskies will attempt to become the first team from Mecklenburg County to win the 4A title since Ardrey Kell in 2012. Hough lost in the 2013 championship match.
▪ Also advancing to the state final was 3A North Iredell (27-2) which has vanquished reigning state champion Cox Mill and 3A power Marvin Ridge via shutout in back-to-back matches. North Iredell beat Marvin Ridge (28-2) 3-0 Tuesday.
▪ In 1A, Community School of Davidson beat Polk County 3-1 to reach its second straight state final. Community School will try to win its second straight state title Saturday against Roxboro Community School.
