Some of the area’s top returning girls’ basketball players:

Kennedy Boyd, Providence Day, Sr., 5-7, PG: UNC commit averaged 12 points and four assists last season for 8-time state champions.

A’Lea Gilbert, South Mecklenburg, 6-0, Sr., F: Appalachian State recruit averaged 13.3 points, 8.6 rebounds last season.

Destiny Johnson, East Lincoln, 5-8, Sr., G: Averaged 20.8 points, 10.3 rebounds, 4.2 steals last season; has scored more than 1,500 career points.

Dazia Lawrence, Mallard Creek, 5-9, Jr., G: Leading scorer (17 ppg) for N.C. 4A state semifinalist last season.

Evonna McGill, Ashbrook, 6-0, Sr., F/C: Averaged 17.5 points, 7.8 rebounds for a 27-3 conference champion.

Ahlana Smith, Mallard Creek, 5-9, Sr., G: Mavericks star committed to UCLA, is a 5-star national recruit.

Gabby Smith, Hickory Ridge, 5-11, Sr., F: Western Carolina commit helped lead her team to N.C. 3A state finals last season.
