NCHSAA Soccer Update: Providence takes down rival South Meck in third round playoff match
Providence High extended its unbeaten season with a 1-0 win over rival South Mecklenburg in the third round of the N.C. High School Athletic Association 4A playoffs.
The Panthers (20-0-3) got the game-winning goal from Joey Dalrymple with about 23 minutes to play.

It was the third meeting between the teams this year. Providence, which won its eighth straight game, played South Meck to a 1-1 tie on Oct. 3 and then beat the Sabres 2-0 on Oct. 26 in the SoMeck conference championship game.
Providence will advance to Saturday’s quarterfinal against Porter Ridge Saturday at 6 p.m.
▪ In another third round match in Mecklenburg County Wednesday, Hough stuffed Myers Park 3-1. The Huskies (22-1) will host Northwest Guilford in Saturday’s fourth round. The Huskies have won 21 straight games.
On Wednesday, Hough got two goals from Jackson Raymer and one score from Nick Piro.
