Charlotte Observer football games of the week plus Friday’s complete playoff schedule

Providence Day (9-2) at Charlotte Christian (9-1), Fri, 7: The teams meet for the N.C. Independent Schools Division I state championship. Providence Day, which lost to Christian 52-14 two weeks ago, will try to avenge that loss to win its first state title since 2011. The Chargers can set a school record for single-season wins. Christian seeks a 10th straight win that would deliver its first state championship in three seasons.

North Mecklenburg (8-3) at Richmond Senior (7-4), Fri, 7:30: The Vikings ended a three-game losing streak last Friday, but still have the most wins at the school since 2006. Vikings coach Eric Morman will take his team to Rockingham, where he played in high school. It’ll be North’s third road game in the past four weeks. Richmond, which lost 69-47 to Scotland Senior in its conference championship game Friday, has won three of its past four.

Sun Valley (8-3) at Marvin Ridge (10-1), Fri, 7:30: Marvin Ridge beat Sun Valley 28-20 at Sun Valley two weeks ago. Now the teams meet in the first round of the 3AA playoffs. Marvin Ridge can set a school record for single-season victories.

Newton-Conover (9-2) at Shelby (9-2), Fri, 7:30: Shelby begins the chase for a fifth straight state championship, coming off a regular-season ending 35-15 loss to Belmont South Point Friday. Newton-Conover has won six of its past seven games.
