Hopewell High football coach Matthew Jenkins resigns
Hopewell High football coach Matthew Jenkins has resigned.
Jenkins was hired in May 2013, when he was beginning his 21st year of coaching and his third head coaching job. He was defensive coordinator at Concord before coming to Hopewell. Before that, he was defensive coordinator at Myers Park.
At Hopewell, Jenkins was 8-15 in two seasons, including 2-9 last season. Hopewell missed the playoffs in 2014. It was the first time that had happened since 2004.
Hopewell officials have an open advertisement for the position. That open posting is set to end April 24. Hopewell’s next coach will be the fifth in school history. Hopewell opened in 2001.
Hopewell and Ardrey Kell now have football openings in Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools, and Charlotte Country Day, a private school, also has a football opening.
