Independence High’s Jamarius Burton among Observer basketball players of the week
Independence High’s Jamarius Burton is a Charlotte Observer high school basketball player of the week.
Playing his first game since missing his junior season because of knee surgery, Burton had 26 points, 12 rebounds, six assists, two steals and a block in his first game back, a 57-55 victory over Hopewell.
Erin Cepeda, Fort Mill Comenius: Had 40 points, 14 rebounds and six assists in a 67-54 win over York Prep.
Jairus Hamilton, Cannon School: Top-100 national recruit had 40 points and 19 rebounds against Raleigh Word of God Friday. In four games, Hamilton is averaging 30.3 points, 15 rebounds and 3.4 assists.
Donovan Gregory, Carmel Christian: Had 19 points, five rebounds, three steals and two blocks in a 68-52 victory at Asheville Christian Saturday.
Tanajah Hayes, Vance girls: A freshman, she had 22 points, 10 steals, seven assists against Olympic Friday. She’s got back-to-back 20-point games to start her career.
Luke Stankavage, Ardrey Kell: Sophomore Providence Day transfer made a 3-point shot with one second left to send Friday’s game with Myers Park into overtime. Ardrey Kell outscored Myers Park 13-3 in the extra period to win 59-49 and start the season 2-0. Stankavage led the Knights with 19 points.
