Games of The Week

No. 7 Hough (10-3) at No. 6 Myers Park (12-1), Friday, 7:30: Myers Park beat Butler on the road last week and will go home Friday to try its first regional championship berth since 2005. Hough will try for its first regional final under first-year coach Matthew Jenkins. Hough has won three straight games, averaging more than 40 per points per week during the streak.

Greensboro Page at No. 2 Mallard Creek (12-0), Friday, 7:30: Mallard Creek beat Page 49-6 in the 2015 state final. Page was in the eastern playoffs then. Page came west last year and beat Vance in the regional final before losing to Wake Forest in the state championship. Page tries to keep marching to another championship berth, hunting its 10th straight win. Page averages 35 points per game and will face a Mavs defense that allows just 10.4 points per game.

Weddington (10-3) at No. 3 Charlotte Catholic (13-0), Friday, 7:30 p.m.: It’s a rematch of Catholic’s 42-6 win at Weddington back in September. Since then, the Warriors – the reigning N.C. 3AA state champions – have won six of seven games. Weddington has shut out three of its past six opponents.

No. 15 Concord Robinson (10-2) at No. 16 Kings Mountain (12-1), Friday, 7:30 p.m.: Kings Mountain is new to the Sweet 16 this week, but other than a 20-17 loss to 2A state power Shelby, which is hunting a fifth straight state championship, the Mountains haven’t really been touched. Kings Mountain has won nine straight games and is averaging 40 points. Robinson has won 10 straight games since a 1-2 start.

No. 13 Hickory Ridge (11-2) at No. 8 Vance (10-3), Friday, 7:30 p.m.: Hickory Ridge is through after beating a one-win South Caldwell team in the second round. It’ll find a stiffer challenge in Charlotte, where Vance hopes to return to the regional finals. The Cougars made the state semifinals in 4AA last season.
