↑Charlotte Christian: Knights beat Pebblebrook (GA) 68-65 Friday at the Holiday Hoopsgiving Tournament. Pebblebrook was ranked No. 5 among all Georgia teams by MaxPreps.
↑Lincoln Charter boys: The Eagles, defending N.C. 1A public school state champs beat NCISAA 1A state champs Burlington School 65-57. Burlington School came into the game having won 85 of its last 86 games
↑Providence Day boys: beat N.C. Independent 2A state semifinalist Gaston Day 82-74 at the Charlotte Hoops Challenge. The Chargers are 9-0 in this event and play nationally ranked Cox Mill Saturday at 8:30 p.m. at Berry. Cox Mill is No. 1 in the Obsever’s Sweet 16 poll. Providence Day is No. 2.
↑Charlotte Hoops Challenge schedule: Saturday’s schedule (below) is full of tantalizing games, including a highly anticipated public-private matchup between Butler High and Cannon School’s boys, and a girls game between Mallard Creek and Ardrey Kell that matches the two top-ranked teams in the Observer’s Sweet 16 poll.

Dami Adelekun, Gaston Day: 6-foot-8 junior had a coming out party in Friday’s Charlotte Hoops Challenge showcase game with Providence Day: 24 points, 23 rebounds and four blocks.
Nasan Ayala, Vasileios Gkountopou, Victory Christian: In a 52-40 win over South Mecklenburg, both Kings had strong games: 16 points, nine rebounds, four assists for Ayala; 14 points, five steals, four rebounds and four assists for Gkountopou.
Devon Dotson, Isaac Suffren, Trey Wertz, Providence Day: Chargers’ senior trio of guards helped spark the Gaston Day win. Dotson, a Kansas signee named MVP of the game, finished with 34 points, nine rebounds, two assists and two steals. Suffren had 19 points and nine rebounds. And Wertz, a Santa Clara signee, had 21 points, six assists and two rebounds.
DeAngelo Epps, Charlotte Country Day: 24 points, 10 rebounds, two blocks in a 74-66 win over Central Cabarrus at the Leroy Holden Challenge. Alex Tabor (14) and Rylan McLaurin (13) had good games for the Bucs (3-1).
Blake Preston, Charlotte Christian: 18 points, 19 rebounds, seven blocks -- including a game-sealing block -- in a 68-65 win over Pebblebrook (GA). Preston is a Liberty signee.

No. 2 Providence Day 82, Gaston Day 74: In a game matching a 2017 N.C. 3A Independent Schools state semifinalist (Providence Day) and a 2017 2A semifinalist (Gaston Day), the Chargers used a 27-20 push in the fourth quarter to decide it. Gaston Day led 16-8 after the first quarter before Providence Day (5-0) worked its way back into the game. Providence Day -- which made only two turnovers and shot 24-of-30 from the free throw line -- got nine rebounds and eight points from sophomore center John Miralia. Gaston Day got 19 points, seven assists and three rebounds from Houston signee Nate Hinton; 11 points, three rebounds from College of Charleston signee Quan McCluney; and 10 points plus one steal from senior M.J. Armstrong.
No. 3 North Mecklenburg d. Anson Senior: Tyren Clark had 18 points to lead unbeaten North Meck in the Leroy Holen Challenge. Tristan Maxwell had 17, Jae’Lyn Withers 16, Chris Ford 13 and Myles Hunter 10. North Meck will play Charlotte Country Day in the Holden championship game Saturday night at 8:30.
No. 5 Charlotte Christian 68, Pebblebrook (GA) 65 -- The Knights beat one of the top teams from Georgia Friday, getting 14 points, five assists and four rebounds from junior point guard JC Tharrington and 12 points and eight rebounds from junior forward Garrett Shrader. The Knights outrebounded Pebblebrook 46-26. Chrsitian trailed by as many as 15 points in the first half as Pebblebrook made 8-of-11 3-point attempts to to start the game. The Knights play Holy Innocents Saturday at 11:30 a.m.
No. 10 Lincoln Charter 65, Burlington School 57: The game matched the reigning N.C. 1A public school (Lincoln Charter) and N.C. 1A private school (Burlington) state champions at the Charlotte Hoops Challenge. Lincoln Charter ran out to large double-digit leads before Burlington made a big push in the third quarter. Burlington School (3-1) out-rebounded Lincoln Charter 32-18 but couldn’t make up the early deficit. Lincoln Charter’s Kody Shubert finished with a game-high 23 points, to go with three steals and two rebounds. Jackson Gabriel made 5-of-6 3-point attempts and finished with 17 points. Burlington’s Makiah Fox had 21 points, six rebounds and a steal, making 9-of-12 shots.
Berry 74, Charlotte Latin 70: Both teams shot very well in a back-and-forth game. Latin shot 52 percent and Berry shot 61 percent. Berry took a 27-18 lead after the first quarter but Latin won the second quarter 23-9 to grab a 41-36 halftime lead. Latin led 60-52 heading into the fourth quarter before a big Berry run. Berry got 19 points from Maurice Brown. Brown made 6-of-7 3-point shots. Berry got 13 points on 6-for-6 shooting from Webster Filmore, 11 points, on 3-for-4 shooting from Randy White and 10 points on 3-for-3 shooting from Darius Best. Latin got 24 points, four rebounds and two steals from JP Smith.
Carmel Christian 65, Discovery (GA) 49: Carmel won its first game at the Holiday Hoopsgiving tournament near Atlanta. Junior Marten Maide, a top 20 recruit in North Carolina for 2019, led his team with 18 points. Carmel will play St. Francis Academy (GA) Saturday at 1 p.m. Donovan Gregory had 14 points, 12 rebounds and eight assists. Myles Pierre had 12 points, 10 rebounds and four steals.
Hoover (AL) 60, Fayetteville Northwood Temple 43: Marion Humphrey had 16 points, 11 rebounds, three assists and two steals in a 60-43 win over Northwood Temple. Jamari Blackmon had 19 points, four rebounds and two steals. Hoover’s 6-11 Clemson signee Trey Jemison finished with two points, six rebounds and a block. Northwood played without top 50 national 2019 recruit Josh Nickelberry and senior N.C. State signee Manny Bates. Ian Steere, another N.C. State signee, didn’t score for Northwood, but added nine rebounds and two blocks.
Victory Christian 52, South Mecklenburg 40: Victory Christian didn’t shoot well, just 36.5 percent for the game, but the Kings limited South Mecklenburg to just 23 percent shooting in a low-scoring win. The Sabres (1-3) made 11-of-48 two-point attempts and were 5-of-21 from the 3-point line. Darien Hayes had 10 points, five rebounds for South and Trey Jackson had nine points, eight rebounds, three assists and two steals.
