NCHSAA state football finals to air on local television in Charlotte market
The 2017 N.C. High School Athletic Association state football championships will be broadcast locally on WCCB-TV in Charlotte.
Last August, the NCHSAA announced a partnership deal with Sinclair Media to broadcast live state football and basketball championships statewide, but there is no Sinclair station in the Charlotte market. Until, WCCB announced its deal Monday, local viewers would’ve likely have had to pay to stream the finals via the National Federation of High Schools streaming service, which charges a $9.95 monthly subscription fee.
NCHSAA assistant commissioner James Alverson said the games will also air on local stations in Greenville and Wilmington as well as on Sinclair affiliates in Asheville, Greensboro and Raleigh.
WCCB, available on most satellite and cable TV services locally, will broadcast all eight state finals. The games will air on the primary channel as well as its digital sub-channels. Some games that do air on the TV channels will be streamed live at the station’s website.
WCCB is home of the CW Network, which carries shows like “Supergirl” and “The Flash.” It is available over-the-air with an antenna at 18-1 and includes three addition digital sub-channels at 18-2, 18-3, 18-4. The station is also available on DirecTV and DISH satellite services as well as local cable services, though those services don’t always carry the sub-channels.
WCCB will announce specific game times and channels on Monday, Dec. 4.
The NCHSAA state championships are scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 9. The 4A and 4AA will be at BB&T Field in Winston-Salem. The 3A and 3AA will be at Duke. The 2A/2AA finals will be at UNC; and the 1A/1AA will be at N.C. State.
