Marvin Ridge defense: Mavericks held Porter Ridge scoreless in the first quarter of a 51-22 win. Noble Tsumas led Marvin Ridge with 11 points.

Charlotte Catholic girls: off to 3-0 start after Tuesday’s 49-29 win over Covenant Day. Dane Bertolina had 14 for the Cougars.

Nevaeh Brown, Aniyah Tate, Central Cabarrus: Brown had 16 points, 10 rebounds, five steals, five assists in a 56-30 win over Forest Hills. Tate added 12 points, 14 rebounds.

Tuesday’s #BIG5 Performers

Rikoya Anderson, Tee Ballard, Rock Hill: 19 points, 13 rebounds, three assists, three steals and two blocks for Anderson, a Winthrop recruit, in an 88-38 win over Gaffney. Ballard, a Converse College recruit, had 18 points, eight rebounds, five steals, three assists, two blocks.

Breya Busby, Ryan Swilling, United Faith: scored 43 of the Falcons’ 46 points in a 46-30 win over Woodlawn. Busby had 30 points, six rebounds and four steals. Swilling had 13 points, nine rebounds and two steals.

Aniya Finger, Hopewell: 27 points, 11 steals in a 51-26 win over Olympic.

Braylyn Milton, Independence: freshman had 18 points, five rebounds, five assists and five steals in a 58-39 win over West Meck. Milton is averaging 15 points, five rebounds, 45. steals and four assists for the Patriots (4-2).

Shamani Stafford, Concord First Assembly: 24 points, three assists, two rebounds in a 65-42 win over Victory Christian. Georgetown recruit Courtney Meadows had 11 points, five steals, four rebounds and four assists. Camille Small had 11 points, three rebounds and three steals.

Tuesday’s Sweet 16 recaps

No. 2 Mallard Creek 69, Berry 47: The Mavericks (1-1) punished Berry with 22-4 spurt in the second quarter that ended the game. UCLA recruit Ahlana Smith led the Mavericks with 15 points and 10 rebounds. All-conference star Dazia Lawrence had 13 points and 10 rebounds. E’Mya Price also had 13 for Mallard Creek. Jordan McLaughlin of Berry led all scorers with 20 points and five steals.

No. 8 Rock Hill 88, Gaffney 38: Rock Hill jumped out to a 44-18 lead in it season opener, showing why it’s been ranked No. 3 in the S.C. preseason 5A poll. Makenna Thompson had 18 points, five rebounds, five steals and two assists

No. 10 Providence Day 57, Greensboro Day 49: UNC recruit Kennedy Boyd had 24 points and Andi Levitz 11 as the Chargers held off a late rally from Greensboro Day to improve to 4-2. Caroline Wyrick had 14 points to lead the Bengals, who caused the Chargers some trouble late with their pressure defense.

No. 11 South Mecklenburg 62, No. 16 Myers Park 26: A’Lea Gilbert, an App State recruit, had 14 points and nine rebounds in an easy win. Myers Park did not score more than nine points in any quarter. Jadin Gladden had 19 points for the Sabres, and Shariah Gaddy added 11 points and 11 rebounds.

Tuesday’s Roundup

Charlotte Country Day 45, Gaston Christian 23: Katie Batten had her fourth straight double-double -- 15 points, 21 rebounds -- to lead the Bucs to an easy win. Gaston Christian scored four points in the first half. Sister Lindsay Batten had seven points and eight rebounds.

Metrolina Christian 70, Fort Mill Comenius 68 OT: Emily Walters had 20 points, including six in overtime to lead her team to the win. She had a basket, foul and a free throw plus a steal in the final two seconds to seal it. Erin Cepeda had 34 for Comenius.

Monroe Parkwood 68, Indian Land 20: Molly Setliff had 22 points, seven steals, four assists and three rebounds in three quarters of an easy win. Teammates Addison Laney (13 points, four rebounds) and Kennedie Gaither (five steals, five assists, four rebounds) also had strong games.
