Charlotte girls soccer: Four of the top 4A teams in the N.C. coaches poll are from the immediate Charlotte area: No. 1 Providence, No. 3 Myers Park, No. 4 Hough and No. 5 Lake Norman. The playoffs are going to be, um, rough.

Heart of a Champion Day: CMS students who are rising sophomores, juniors and seniors can begin to register for free medical athletic screenings that are valued at more than $1,500 Friday. The screenings included a review of the athlete's medical history, a general sports screening, an orthopedic screening, an Electrocardiogram (ECG), an Echocardiogram (ECHO), and, if needed, a vision exam and access to a registered dietician.

Providence baseball (16-1, 9-1 SoMeck 8) at Ardrey Kell (16-2, 9-1), Tues, 6:30 p.m.: Providence is ranked No. 5 in MaxPreps’ rankings of all of North Carolina’s high school teams. The only team to beat the Panthers? That’s No. 4 Ardrey Kell. With four games left in the league schedule, the teams are tied for first place, ahead of South Meck (13-4, 7-2) and Charlotte Catholic (12-3, 7-2). Catholic plays at South Meck tonight.

Butler baseball at Rocky River, Tues, 6 p.m.: Butler (11-2, 8-0 Southwestern 4A) has a slight lead on Myers Park (7-7, 6-1) and Independence (11-8, 6-2) in the league standings as we head into the final two weeks of play.

Providence girls soccer (14-0, 8-0 Southwestern 4A) at Ardrey Kell (11-4-1, 7-1), Tues, 6 p.m.: Providence is ranked No. 1 in the N.C. 4A girls statewide coaches poll. Ardrey Kell, which has won eight straight, is No. 12. This game will go a long way in determining a league champion.

Myers Park girls soccer (8-1-1, 5-0 Southwestern 4A) at Porter Ridge (8-2-2, 4-1), Tues, 6 p.m.: Myers Park, No. 3 in the N.C. 4A coaches poll, will try to build on its conference lead.

Hough girls soccer (13-1-1, 8-0 MECKA 8) at Robinson (7-3, 5-2): Hough can virtually lock up the league title with a win. The Huskies have allowed nine games in 15 games and go for a sixth straight win.

Conference track meets: The MECKA 8 track meet is Tuesday and Wednesday at Mallard Creek. Action begins at 4:30 p.m. both days. The Southwestern 4A track meet is at Butler Wednesday and Thursday and the SoMeck 8 is at West Meck Wednesday and Thursday.

Conference tennis: The SoMeck 8 tennis tournament begins Wednesday and concludes Thursday at South Meck. Action begins at 4 p.m. both days. MECKA 8 tennis is Thursday at 3 p.m. at Mallard Creek.
