↑Chazz Surratt, East Lincoln: junior point guard makes MaxPreps national junior basketball All-America team in the same week he commits to Duke for football. Not a bad athlete, huh? Oh, and his baby brother, Sage, made the MaxPreps sophomore All-America football and basketball, too.
↑Hopewell High Military Appreciation night: During Friday’s home baseball game with Vance, Hopewell High will honor the service military personnel provide. The school invites all active duty, reservists and retirees to attend and will give them free admission with a military ID card. Silent auctions will benefit Purple Heart Homes and other military groups.
↑Marvin Ridge tennis: 13-0 after a 9-0 win over Weddington Tuesday.
↑Ardrey Kell girls soccer: Knights, ranked No. 12 in the N.C. 4A coaches poll, tied No. 1 Providence 0-0 Tuesday.
↑Alexander Central softball: 84 straight wins is new N.C. record and ranks fourth nationally. The all-time mark is 112 straight. During the Alexander win streak, coach Monte Sherrill’s team has won by shutout 42 times and has outscored opponents 934-91.
Tuesday’s top performers
Grace Anderson, Charlotte Latin girls lacrosse: six goals in a 20-8 win over Providence Day.
Mason Elmore, Ardrey Kell golf: won a 34 in a dual team match with Charlotte Catholic. The teams tied at 154. Elmore was four strokes clear of the field.
Emma Grace Lloyd, Myers Park girls soccer: only goal in a 1-0 win over Porter Ridge as the Mustangs strengthened their grip on first place in the Southwestern 4A. Maddie Getz got the shutout for Myers Park (9-1-1, 6-0). Porter Ridge fell to 8-3-2, 4-2.
Reed Hedberg, South Meck baseball: 3-for-3 with an RBI in a 4-3 win over Charlotte Catholic. South Meck (14-4, 8-2) trails Providence by one game in the loss column in the SoMeck 8 standings with three games to play. South Meck visits Providence Tuesday.
Josh Hiatt, Providence baseball: 4-for-4 with seven RBIs in a 15-3 win over Ardrey Kell. He had a grand slam home run in the second inning. As a pitcher, he retired the first nine Ardrey Kell batters he faced. Ardrey Kell is ranked No. 4 in the state among all schools by MaxPreps. Providence is fifth.
Cameron Jones, Providence Day girls soccer: hat trick with three goals in a 6-0 win over Covenant Day.
Zack Queen, Lake Norman Charter baseball: 3-for-3 with 6 RBIs in a 14-1 win over Stuart Cramer.
Haley Reid, Ardrey Kell softball: 2-for-3 with a two doubles in a 3-2 win over Providence. Providence’s Leigha Helms had a HR.
Sam Russ, Providence Day softball: 2-for-3 with a grand slam in a 15-0 win over Covenant Day.
Bennett Smith, Charlotte Latin baseball: 2-for-2 with a double and two RBIs in a 5-0 win over Covenant Day.
Jacob Whitcomb, Mooresville golf: Shot a 37 to win medalist at the eighth North Piedmont 3A/4A match at Mallard Golf Club over nine holes. Lake Norman won the team title by a stroke (161) over Mooresville.
Morgan Whitesides, Gaston Day girls soccer: three goals an an assist in a 7-0 win over Westminster Catawba.
Kelly Williams, North Meck girls soccer: four goals in a 10-1 win over West Charlotte. Meg Houck had three assists.
Nick Wilson, Charlotte Latin lacrosse: 13 saves in a 15-8 win over Cannon.
Max Wotell, Marvin Ridge baseball: 2-for-2 in a 6-5 win over Union County rival Cuthbertson.
