Luke Maye, Hough basketball: Scored 15 points and grabbed 12 rebounds to win MVP of the 42nd annual Capital Classic in Washington, D.C. Friday The game matched top D.C.-area players against a group of selected players from around the country. Several ACC recruits played, including Maye (North Carolina), Bryant Crawford (Wake Forest) and Malik Beasley (Florida State) along with South Carolina recruit PJ Dozier (South Carolina). Maye’s U.S. stars won 105-102.

Sophie Sipprell, East Meck girls soccer: five goals in a 9-1 win over Rocky River.

Clover tennis: beat Nation Ford 6-0 Monday and won its second straight Region III 4A champonship. Clover is 14-0.

Gaston Christian tennis: won the MAC championship Monday with a 9-0 win over Concord First Assembly. Gaston Christian is 8-4 overall and 6-0 in league play.

Monday’s Top Performers

Zach Boatwright, Robinson golf: Shot 76 at MECKA 8 golf event Monday. Hough (303) finished first.

Alyssa Carbone, Central Academy girls soccer: three goals in a 9-0 win over West Stanly. Morgan Garrett got the shutout.

Steven Farkas, Lake Norman Charter baseball: Improved to 6-0 with a 14-3 win over East Gaston. Farkas pitched five innings, had five strikeouts and allowed two hits.

Maddie Getz, Abby Britt, Myers Park girls soccer: paired for the shutout in a 9-0 win over Butler. Abby Givens and Olivia Hollidge had two goals each. Myers Park is 12-1-1 and 8-0 in Southwestern 4A play.

Hannah Jones, Hough softball: six strikeouts and five hits allowed in a 9-2 win over Mallard Creek. Leah Murray was 2-for-2 with a home run for Hough and Alex Braun was 2-for-4 with a double, a homer and three RBIs.

Kelsey Long, Indian Land girls soccer: two goals in 7-0 win over York.

Jim Lynch, Carmel Christian baseball: 3-for-4 with an RBI in a 12-2 win over Hickory Christian.

Landon Shelley, Myers Park girls lacrosse: seven assists in a 16-0 win over Butler. Rachel Perkins scored three goals.

Will Stewart and Jack Brea, Providence Day golf: Shot a pair of 69s in a three-team match with Country Day and Charlotte Latin. Providence Day won the tri-team match.

Spencer Turner, Metrolina Christian baseball: 2-for-2 with an RBI in a 11-0 win over Concord First Assembly. Garrett Henry had three RBIs.

Morgan Whitesides, Gaston Day girls soccer: three goals in a 5-1 win over Northside. Gaston Day will play Gaston Christian or SouthLake Christian in Tuesday’s MAC tournament semifinals Tuesday at 6:30.

Ellie Wilson, Lake Norman Charter softball: 3-for-4 batting with three strikeouts. She had a triple and double batting against East Gaston.
