Hough High’s girls’ soccer team didn’t show visiting A.L. Brown much mercy Tuesday.

There’s a reason for that – the Huskies’ rule-shortened 9-0 victory gave them a share of the MECKA 4A title.

Anna Roach scored two first-half goals and assisted on a third for the Huskies (16-1-1, 11-0), who can claim their fourth straight league title outright Friday by beating West Charlotte.

But that’s not Hough’s goal this season, according to Roach.

“We win the conference, but that doesn’t mean we’ve won the state championship,” she said. “We’ve still got to keep our minds focused on our end goal – to win another state championship.”

The Huskies, ranked fourth among 4A teams in the latest N.C. coaches poll, had little trouble with A.L. Brown.

Roach put Hough’s first goal on the board less than 90 seconds into the match, the Huskies went on to lead 4-0 at the half, and were able to end the match early on McKenzee Johnson’s goal with 11 minutes, 22 seconds remaining.

In between, Hough outshot the Wonders 25-0 and only allowed them to cross midfield with the ball 10 times.

Quote

“We don’t look ahead, we don’t look down the road, we just try to go each game at a time. If you do that now, it makes the month of May a little easier to handle.” – Hough coach David Smith.
