Elevator
↑Simeon Carter, West Charlotte basketball: 6-foot-8 senior center committed to play at Southern Methodist. SMU is coached by former Charlotte Bobcats coach Larry Brown. Carter led West Charlotte to the N.C. 4A state semifinals last season.
↑Aaron Stewart, Metrolina Christian baseball: led his team to a 4-3 win over SouthLake Christian in the Metrolina Athletic Conference tournament final. He was the winning pitcher and struck out 14. Stewart also was 2-for-4 batting with an RBI for Metrolina (16-7).
↑Concord principal Carla Black: to receive a N.C. High School Athletic Association state award during the NCHSAA annual meeting May 7 in Chapel Hill. Black is a member of the NCHSAA board of directors and was previously named Cabarrus County educator of the decade by the local chapter of the NAACP.
↑Grayce Anderson, Charlotte Latin girls lacrosse: four goals in a 17-7 win over Providence Day. Anderson scored her 200th goal in the game and now has 201 in her career. Anderson’s teammate, Catherine Crigler, also had four goals.
Thursday’s Top Performers
Marcus Abraham, Victory Christian track: won shot put by more than 12 feet and discus by about 25 feet, in a multi-team meet at Charlotte Country Day. Victory Christian won the boys meet with 164 points. Country Day (124) was second. Cannon (153) won the girls meet. Covenant Day (84.5) was second.
Trent Alley, Charlotte Country Day baseball: winning pitcher in a 13-0 win over Covenant Day and had a double and five RBIs as a batter.
Jeremy Antall, Ardrey Kell baseball: 2-for-3 with a double, a home run and two RBIs in a 6-1 win over South Meck. The win pushed Ardrey Kell (20-4, 12-2) to a share of the SoMeck 8 championship with Providence. Providence was upset 3-2 by Charlotte Catholic in its regular-season finale and fell to 21-2, 12-2.
Ryan Burgoyne, Providence Day baseball: 3-for-5 with a double, a grand slam and six RBIs in a 17-4 win over Cannon.
Haley Reid, Providence softball: 4-for-4 in a 4-3 loss to Charlotte Catholic.
Sam Russ, Providence Day softball: 3-for-4 with a triple and two RBIs in 6-0 win over Charlotte Latin.
Hannah Shaul, Charlotte Catholic softball: 2-for-4 in 4-3 win over Providence, plus the game-winning triple.
