Elevator

Luke Maye, Hough basketball: will play in the East-West All-Star game in Greensboro in July. Hough teammates Spencer Russell (Berry, Ga.) and Chase Sweetman (Roanoke College, VA) and Connor Whipp (Roanoke College, VA) all signed with colleges.

Providence baseball: Panthers, co-SoMeck 8 regular-season champs, are ranked No. 44 nationally by MaxPreps.

Remele Everett Hicks, Carmel Christian basketball: Senior guard, who averaged 19 points, nine rebounds and four steals, signed to play at Randolph (VA) College. Everett Hicks was all-conference last season.

The weekend’s top performers

Dillon Carpenter, Charlotte Christian baseball: 2-for-3 with a double, a homer and four RBIs in a 7-6 win over Charlotte Latin Friday.

Emily Cox, Lancaster, S.C.: Sophomore at Andrew Jackson High won the 10th Vicki DiSantis Girls championship with a 15-foot par on the final hole Sunday at Pine Island Country Club in Charlotte.

Burk Darrow, Charlotte Country Day softball: 2-for-4 with the game-winning RBI in Friday’s 4-3 win over Covenant Day.

Elise Gallo, Hough girls soccer: three assists in a 9-0 win over West Charlotte Friday. Katie Easley and Haley McGoldrick had two goals each.

Natalie Italiano, Charlotte Catholic girls lacrosse: six goals in a 17-16 win over Myers Park in the Conference 11 tournament final Friday.

Heath McKay, Carmel Christian baseball: 2-for-3 in a 9-3 win over Hickory Christian in the SPAA championship game. He was also the winning pitcher.

Alina McCue, Covenant Day girls soccer: Three-goal at trick in a 3-1 win over Charlotte Country Day.

Hunter Sheridan, Charlotte Latin lacrosse: five goals in 16-7 win over Providence Day Friday. Teammate Owen Armstrong scored four times. Goalie Nick Wilson had 16 saves.

NCHSAA state track championships: the N.C. 3A finals are Friday and the 4A Saturday at N.C. A&T. The 1A is May 15 and 2A May 16 at the same site. The 1A and 2A regional events are this weekend.

NCHSAA boys tennis championships: Friday and Saturday at Cary Tennis Park (1A and 2A), Burlington Tennis Center (3A) and Millbrook Exchange Park in Raleigh (4A).
