Victory Christian senior center Ebuka Izundu, one of the nation’s top unsigned college basketball recruits, will announce his decision Wednesday, his high school coach told the Observer.

Victory Christian coach Aureice McCain said Izundu, a 6-foot-10 center, will choose between Arkansas, Cincinnati and Miami. Izundu visited Arkansas last week and has also taken visits recently to Tennessee, Miami and Cincinnati, McCain said.

Izundu signed with the Charlotte 49ers last November, but asked for a release after the 49ers decided to mutually part ways with head coach Alan Major. Izundu said he wanted a chance to get to know new 49ers coach Mark Price and explore his options. McCain said Izundu’s recruiting turned white-hot shortly after he was released by the 49ers.

Several high-major coaches have been on campus to watch Izundu work out and have watched him play for his summer travel team, the Charlotte ACES.

“It’s been crazy,” McCain said. “I’m getting a whole lot more phone calls. Wichita State, South Carolina and Florida have called. Texas Tech and UConn want to try to get him to do a visit.”

Rivals, a national recruiting website, ranks Izundu as a three-star prospect. Another site, 247Sports, rates him as a four-star recruit.

McCain said Izundu was close to ready after narrowing his schools to three.

“Those three have good coaches in great leagues,” McCain said. “They are all very competitive and give him a chance to play top teams every night and go to the NCAA tournament.”
