Charlie Gray hired as head football coach at Hopewell
Former Mallard Creek assistant coach Charlie Gray is the new head coach at Hopewell High School.
Hopewell athletics director Jamie Billings announced the hiring early Tuesday morning.
Gray will be Hopewell’s third coach in five seasons and the fifth since the school opened in 2001. He replaces Matt Jenkins, who went 6-6 in 2013 and 2-9 in 2014. Hopewell has not had a winning season since 2010, when the Titans were 8-5.
Gray has coached at Salisbury and Vance High Schools and at Livingstone College, where he played in college.
Hopewell will host an introduction ceremony for Gray at 5:30 p.m. Thursday in the school’s media center.
