Myers Park settles for 2nd, but Forestview claims 3A
Myers Park had two boys’ golfers finish among the top 10 in the N.C. 4A golf championships Tuesday at Pinehurst No. 4, and the Mustangs finished third in the team standings.
Southern Pines Pinecrest took the team title by six shots over Raleigh Broughton and by eight over Myers Park. Charlotte Catholic finished fourth and Hough was fifth.
Individually, Southern Pines Pinecrest’s Eric Bae won the individual title with back-to-back rounds of 2-under 70. Charlotte Catholic’s Quinn Tardif (75-72–147) tied for sixth, and Myers Park’s Henry Shimp and Will Simmons (148) tied for ninth, along with Providence’s Christian Park.
▪ Gastonia’s Forstview High won the N.C. 3A title at Southern Pines by five shots over East Rowan. Marvin Ridge was third, nine shots back. It was Forestview’s fourth straight championship.
East Rowan’s Nick Lyerly shot a 4-under 67 to win the individual championship. Lyerly had a two-day total of 4-under 138. He was two shots clear of South Johnston’s Patrick Stephenson. Concord’s Stephen Carroll and Forestview’s Avery Price tied for third. Cuthbertson’s Michael Sardinia tied for seventh and Marvin Ridge’s Tyler Kozlowski and Zack Swanson tied for ninth, along with Hibriten’s Dawson Walker.
▪ At the 2A championships in Whispering Pines, SouthWest Edgecombe’s Cole Jefferys won his second straight championship. He shot a 1-over 145 over the two-day event, firing an even-par 72 Tuesday. Newton-Conover’s Nick Isenhower finished eighth.
Newton-Conover won the team championship, its third straight. South Stokes and Wilkes Central battled in a playoff for the second spot after finishing at 660, with Wilkes Central winning on the first playoff hole. Shelby finished eighth.
▪ Lincoln Charter finished runner-up at the 1A state final at Foxfire Village. Bishop McGuinness won its fifth straight state championship by 44 strokes. Bishop McGuinness’ Reilly Erhardt shot a 3-under 69 to win the individual championship. Erhart shot a 2-under total of 142 for the two days to win by nine shots. Lincoln Charter’s Evan Crook and Justin Morgan tied for fourth. Albemarle’s Jay Andrew was tied for ninth.
Community School of Davidson and Mooresville’s Pine Lake Prep fiished fourth and fifth in the team totals.
