Former college star, Euro-pro joins basketball staff at state champion Carmel Christian
Carmel Christian has added former college basketball star and European professional Albert Perkins to its boys basketball staff.
Perkins will be an assistant under Joe Badgett. Badgett, a former Charlotte 49ers guard, is taking over for former Carmel coach Byron Dinkins, who left the school to take a position on staff at Charlotte.
Perkins played at Division II Mars HIll and Division I N.C. A&T. He was an honorable mention All-MEAC performer at A&T. After college, Perkins played professional in France, England, Czech Republic, Wales and the NBA Developmental League.
Perkins has coached youth basketball for 14 years and has been an assistant coach at Hope Christian Academy in Kings Mountain, and Concord Cannon School. He was head coach at Christ The King Catholic School and most recently at Mooresville’s Woodlawn School.
Perkins is married to Erica Perkins, from Gastonia and a graduate of UNC Chapel Hill. They have two children: a daughter Sasha and a son Royce.
