Union County high school pitcher ranked in top 10 nationally

Former Indian Trail Porter Ridge pitcher Brennan Malone is ranked in the top of all high school baseball players in the class of 2019.

Malone is ranked No. 8 overall and No. 3 among pitchers in the class by Perfect Game. Malone announced in early July that he would spend his senior season at IMG Academy in Florida.

Malone, 6-foot-5 and 210 pounds, is a two-time Perfect Game first team All-American. Last season, Malone was named pitcher of the year in the Southwestern 4A conference. HIs fastball, according to Perfect Game, has reached 96 mph.

Last season, Malone had a 1.36 ERA with 76 strikeouts in 51.1 innings pitched. Malone committed to North Carolina in the fall of 2016.
