Mooresville, Weddington stars among Observer prep football players of the week
Quamir “Q” Conner, Mooresville: Senior running back ran for 95 yards and two scores in a 34-26 upset victory over North Mecklenburg Friday. Conner also caught nine passes for 163 yards and a score from junior QB Hunter DeBerardino (15 of 24, 270 yards, TDs).
Power Echols, Vance: Sophomore linebacker scored on offense in a 20-7 loss to Mallard Creek on Saturday. He also had 15 tackles, two for losses, plus 1.5 sacks.
Ryan Renshaw, Community School of Davidson: Had 314 total yards, two touchdowns, eight tackles and an interception in a 41-32 victory over previously unbeaten Gastonia Highland Tech (3-1). Renshaw had 155 receiving yards and two scores, and 159 return yards.
Will Shipley, Weddington: Ran 17 times for 161 yards and two touchdowns in a 31-21 upset over Union County rival Indian Trail Sun Valley. Sun Valley is No. 7 in the Sweet 16.
Tahleek Steele, Rock Hill South Pointe: Junior QB threw for 402 yards and five touchdowns in a 52-0 victory over Indian Land.
Noah Thompson, Rock Hill: Averaging 91 yards per game as his team’s No. 2 running back, Thompson busted out for 217 yards and three touchdowns on 22 carries in a win over Lugoff-Elgin Friday.
