Observer-area teams dominate N.C. Associated Press 3A and 4A polls

Three of the top four spots in the N.C. Associated Press 4A statewide poll belong to Mecklenburg County teams. In all five county teams are ranked.

Two-time state champion Wake Forest from eastern North Carolina is No. 1 with seven first-place votes. Mallard Creek (two first place votes) is No. 2 followed by Hough and Myers Park. No. 7 Vance and No. 9 Butler are also in the top 10. Also in the top 10 is area school Richmond Senior. The Raiders are ranked fifth.

In the 3A poll, seven area teams are ranked: No. 2 Charlotte Catholic, No. 4 Weddington, No. 6 Gastonia Huss, No. 7 Boiling Springs Crest, No. 8 Charlotte Christian, No. 9 Indian Trail Sun Valley and No. 10 Kings Mountain.

Charlotte Christian is a private school that would be the size of a 1A public. The Knights have been included on the ballot alongside other 3A public schools.

Two area teams rank in 2A: No. 1 Lenoir Hibriten, No. 7 East Rutherford and No. 8 Belmont South Point. No. 7 North Rowan and No. 8 North Stanly are the only area teams ranked in 1A.
