Friday night football: Here are 6 area games to follow

No. 15 Mooresville (5-0, 1-0 I-Meck 4A) at No. 1 Hough (5-0, 1-0), 7 p.m.: Mooresville quarterback Hunter Deberardino has passed for 1,000 yards, but his Hough counterpart, Kennique Bonner-Steward, has 1,179 passing yards, 17 touchdowns, and just one interception.

No. 10 Butler (3-2, 1-0 Southwestern 4A) at Indian Trail Porter Ridge (3-2, 1-0), 7:30 p.m.: The winner remains in the race with Myers Park (and possibly Harrisburg Hickory Ridge) for the conference title. Butler’s rushing defense has been spotty, and Porter Ridge features RB Jayden Coleman (786 rushing yards) and QB Grayson McCall (551).

Alexander Central (5-0, 1-0 Northwestern 3A-4A) at Boone Watauga (5-0, 1-0), 7:30 p.m.: You know what you’ll get here – points. Alexander Central is averaging 54 a game; Watauga, 45.

No. 9 Weddington (5-0, 1-0 Southern Carolina 3A) at No. 5 Charlotte Catholic (4-1, 1-0), 7:30 p.m.: Warriors RB Will Shipley faces a huge challenge from a Catholic defense allowing an average of 4.3 points a game. It’s the Warriors’ third straight game against a powerhouse foe.

West Lincoln (4-1, 0-1 South Fork 2A) at Maiden (4-1, 0-1), 7:30 p.m.: These teams are coming off upset losses last week. It’s an elimination game to stay in the conference race and keep pace with Catawba Bandys and East Lincoln.

Clover (4-2, 0-0 Region 4 5A) at Fort Mill Nation Ford (2-3, 0-0), 7:30 p.m.: Clover QB David Hall averages about 270 passing yards a game. RB Nathan Mahaffey (701 rushing yards) powers the Nation Ford offense.
